Primary Health Care in qathet

You have several options:

  1. In an emergency, please call 9-1-1 or go to the Emergency department at qathet General Hospital, on 5000 Joyce Avenue. 
  2. For medical advice, call 8-1-1 to talk with a Registered Nurse, Health Navigator or other Health Professionals.
  3. For a list of other health care professionals and programs, see our local services page
  4.  For non-emergency medical care, book a walk-in appointment at the the Powell River Medical Clinic (weekdays).
  5. Register on the Health Connect Registry for the next available local primary care provider online or by calling 8-1-1.

If you have a requisition from a physician or nurse practitioner, you can access laboratory services at the qathet General Hospital, on 5500 Joyce Avenue. Click here to learn more and/or book an appointment online. 

The Travel Assistance Program (TAP) helps with some of the transportation costs for eligible B.C. residents who must travel within the province for non-emergency medical specialist services that are not available in their own community. Please click here for the list of eligible services. 

TAP forms are only available from your referring physician or nurse practitioner at the time the referral is made.

The Health Connect Registry is a province-wide patient registry available in the qathet region for people who are looking for a primary care provider (family physician or nurse practitioner). You can register with the Health Connect Registry in qathet if you, your family, or a person in your care live in Powell River, the qathet Regional District (including Texada and Savary Islands but not Lasqueti Island), or Tla’amin Nation.
